Kellie and Taylor stood outside the candle shop with a few other shoppers and watched the police cruisers and medical examiner’s van leave the river parking area.

Taylor leaned close to Kellie and asked, “Do you suppose Uncle Mike is going to believe you now?”

“I have no idea, but I know he’s going to be frustrated that Claudia knew there was a body at the river. He likes all his cases to line up perfectly and make sense according to his ideas.” She turned and entered the candle shop ready to make several purchases when her phone beeped.

Kellie laughed, “It’s a text from Uncle Mike. He wants to talk to me soon.”

“I just bet he does,” Taylor answered picking up a primrose scented candle and adding it to her basket. “So when are you going to see him?”

“We…we are going to see him. I need someone to back me up when he blows up,” Kellie said sniffing a peach scented candle. “Here, try this, it smells like fresh peach pie.”

“Mmm, that would make me hungry if the scent filled my house all day long. I have an idea, let’s buy Uncle Mike a large lavender scented candle for his office. It might help him relax,” Taylor suggested.

Kellie, thinking of her uncle sitting in a lavender scented office, snorted out loud and burst into laughter. Taylor joined her and both young woman took a few minutes to allow some of the stress bearing down on them to diminish.

“I’m going to buy that candle. We’ll buy some of his favorite applesauce muffins and offer them and the candle as a pre-anger peace offering because we know he’s going to get angry when we talk to him. If he doesn’t like the candle, he can take it home to Aunt Rita. Maybe enjoying the scent at home will help him relax for part of his day,” Kellie said and walked toward the candles she wanted.

“Jar or pillar?” Taylor asked.

“Well, he won’t light it in the office and he can place the lid on the jar unless we toss it before we give it to him.”

“True, but even without a lid he could plop a book on top of it.”

“Good thinking, let’s get the tallest pillar they have. It’ll give more scent and he needs all the help he can get”

“Agreed,” Taylor giggled. “How about this one?” She held up a four by six inch candle.

“Maybe he’ll keep it as a paperweight and get the benefit of the scent that way. Let’s buy it, stop and grab the muffins, and then ask him when he wants us to drop by his office.” Kellie smiled.
